Pakistan’s blockbuster film “The Legend of Maula Jatt” premiered in Beijing today, marking a historic milestone in cinematic collaboration between Pakistan and China. The film will be released in cinemas across China from 21 May 2026.

H.E. Mr. Khalil Hashmi, Ambassador of Pakistan to China, congratulated filmmaker Mr. Bilal Lashari and distributor Mr. Nadeem Mandviwala on this landmark achievement. He also expressed appreciation to the China Film Administration, China Film Import and Export Corporation, and China Film Group for their valuable support in bringing the film to Chinese audiences.

Ambassador Hashmi noted that the release of The Legend of Maula Jatt coincided with the celebrations marking 75 years of diplomatic relations between Pakistan and China. He said that the film offered Chinese audiences a unique opportunity to experience the richness and vibrancy of Pakistani cinema, while reflecting the spirit of mutually beneficial cooperation between the film industries of the two countries.

The Ambassador noted that the film’s release follows the Film Co-Production Agreement signed in June 2024 between Pakistan’s Ministry of Information and Broadcasting and the China Film Administration. The agreement aims to promote exchanges between filmmakers and encourage joint productions that resonate with audiences in both countries.

Highlighting Pakistan’s rapidly expanding media and entertainment sector, Ambassador Hashmi noted that the country has over 200 million telecom subscribers, more than 200 television channels, and state-of-the-art cinema infrastructure. He also underscored Pakistan’s growing international recognition in the film industry, with Pakistani filmmakers recently receiving accolades at the SCO Film Festival in China.

Ambassador Hashmi noted that the premiere of the film was not only a proud recognition of Pakistani creative talent, but also an important step forward in deepening cultural and people-to-people exchanges between Pakistan and China. He expressed confidence that more Pakistani films would reach Chinese audiences, while more Chinese films would find a home in Pakistan, further strengthening the All-Weather Strategic Cooperative Partnership between the two countries.

The screening of The Legend of Maula Jatt in China represents a significant new chapter in Pakistan-China cultural cooperation and underscores the shared commitment of both countries to fostering deeper understanding through artistic and cinematic exchange.
