Consulate General of Pakistan, Chengdu

 

Introduction

The Consulate General of Pakistan, Chengdu, established on 19 April 2007, promotes Pakistan’s economic, trade, investment, education and cultural ties with China’s Sichuan, Guizhou and Yunnan provinces as well as with Chongqing municipality. These regions are collectively home to over 210 million people, boasting a thriving economy worth approximately USD 2 trillion.

Pakistan’s bilateral trade with these regions stood at USD 1.143 billion in 2024. In recent years, Pakistan’s exports to China’s southwest region have experienced remarkable growth, with a 200% increase to Sichuan, 160% surge to Chongqing and a remarkable 600 rise to Guangzhou in the period 2022-24.

The region is home to several leading Chinese companies with significant investments in Pakistan, including:

The Consulate General extends consular and community welfare services to around 2400 Pakistanis living in the region, including students and professionals. In addition, the Consulate General issues visas and provides travel guidance to Chinese nationals intending to visit Pakistan.

The Consulate General has been actively promoting cultural activities such as cricket tournaments, food festivals and artefacts exhibitions to project Pakistan’s soft power in China. Pakistani students, who constitute the largest cohort of international students in the region, also serve as important conduits of cultural exchange and people to people linkages between China and Pakistan.
